Do you feel at a loss for words, literally? Do you have copy you need written or finessed with a keen editor’s eye? Maybe you have a great idea or product but you’re lacking the right words to get your message across. Maybe you might even feel less-than, or like you can’t get things right. There also may be some trepidation. You know you need writing or editing help – and maybe it’s something you’ve considered but haven’t prioritized – yet you feel stuck and not confident in what that looks like, or where to even begin.
I’m passionate about helping people feel good about themselves and what they are offering. Words are a valuable expression of sharing your message, and proper writing and editing will help that message shine rather than be masked by poor verbiage, grammar, punctuation … the list goes on.
Writing and editing isn’t just what I do; it’s at the heart of who I am. I’ve studied the craft of writing extensively and used it professionally for more than 15 years. I’ve also taught it to others at a university, through workshops, and at speaking engagements. Throughout my career, I’ve practiced it continually as a magazine editor who became a children’s book author, then ventured into content strategy before diving into what I’ve always wanted to do: owning my own business as a professional writer and editor.
I have always had a love of writing. My stories from childhood included a donkey named Papyrus and overuse of the words “dazzling” and “desolate.” I’ve since polished my craft, publishing a children’s book and writing some yet-to-be-published novels which each feature a strong female lead with wisdom, wit, and warmth surrounding the themes of family, love, and the ties that bond us all. My novels take influence from one of my great loves: travel. I also dabble in some poetry just for fun — but maybe for sharing at some point, too.
I grew my freelance business from a side hustle at previous jobs, where I was a magazine editor at various Arizona lifestyle publications and a content strategist at a tech company. During that time, I also taught professional writing at Grand Canyon University and published my children’s book. Eventually, I took the leap into making my side hustle my full-time focus.
Born and raised in Dallas, I studied journalism at the University of Oklahoma and then got a master’s degree in professional writing there, where I found some of my most encouraging readers and inspirational mentors.
My wanderlust took me to San Francisco, California, before I moved to Arizona, where I currently live. During my free time, I love hanging out with my rescue pup (a poodle-bichon named Hope) and dreaming of the next place I’ll travel.
I hired Chelsea to proofread the launch of my inaugural magazine, Feng Shui Journal. Chelsea’s expertise was invaluable in the completion of the project. She is accommodating and punctual in her work and inspires confidence. I love how meticulous she is. Her sharp eye, keen sense for flow and format, and attention to detail and accuracy for the English language is most reassuring and significantly improved the quality of my magazine. She is a person you can trust, and you will most certainly not regret using her services. I highly recommend Chelsea for all editing and proofreading work, and will definitely be working with her again (and again) on future projects!
Chelsea is a very inspiring and insightful writer and editor. Her suggestions and contributions in the process of writing my book were very helpful and positive. She is detail-oriented, creative, and supportive. A true inspiration. I would highly recommend her services to anyone.
Working with Chelsea has been an A+++ experience. The level of professionalism and results are unparalleled. As an agency, we have all types of projects that all have very different and specific needs. We also have huge amounts of information that need to be condensed into a concise yet powerful marketing message that drives action, lifts up the brand authority, and ultimately increases revenue for businesses. Chelsea has not only met, but exceeded, all expectations for us as well as our clients.
To say I was blown away by Chelsea's work is an understatement. I shared my story with her through bullet points, and when I read how creatively she put it all together for copy for my website, my jaw dropped! She wrote it in a way that was absolutely moving. I cannot recommend her enough!
My work with Chelsea is two-fold. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her on behalf of my clients for several years, and, when working with Chelsea, we are able to give full assurance that the resulting stories will be correct, fair, balanced and, most importantly, interesting to the reader. She also has a keen ability to suss out our clients and sources for multiple stories she may be working on, versus being narrowly focused on a one-off interview on a singular topic. Then, as a freelance journalist, I’ve worked with her on more than 100 stories since 2015, each one she carefully helped guide – and rigorously fact-checked – without taking away from my artistic license.
With her experiential approach to storytelling, Chelsea’s words transcend the print journalism platform and invite readers along for the adventure, and her expertise in cross-platform engagement keeps them coming back for more. Chelsea makes those around her better writers, editors, students and professionals by captivating them with her curiosity and never missing an opportunity to share something new.
Chelsea played a truly pivotal role in the launch of our book. Not only was she very professional, prompt in her replies, and fun to work with, but she also made critical edits to our book. We receive compliments on how well-written our book is, and that is thanks to Chelsea's work. We were really impressed with how much she also ensured that elements throughout our book flowed together, from chapter one until the end. You will be so grateful in working with Chelsea.
